High Level CO2 Development Plan

The Client had established substantial reserves of High CO2 content natural gas in southwest Texas.  Market and Processing facilities were located some distance from the production field and were limited in available capacity.  The client needed an impartial production development concept and associated budgetary cost estimate for their field development planning efforts.

Fairwinds was commissioned to research options and produce a study presenting various realistic options for the development.  The study included sizing and budgetary estimates for a large diameter pipeline, field gathering system and a "grass roots” CO2 Recovery Plant.  Fairwinds investigated numerous process options for the CO2 Recovery Plant and presented estimates of Capital Cost, Operating Cost and Construction time for each option.  The options considered included traditional Solvent Systems, Membrane System and several Proprietary Processes.  In addition, a pipeline Route, Capital Cost and Construction Schedule were developed for the required large diameter pipeline.  Options were evaluated with respect to expandability, and throughput "Turndown” limits to the Client’s needs to expedite production and to fully and efficiently deplete the field’s reserves.

Results:
The study assisted the client’s capitalization efforts and resulted in Fairwinds assisting in the evaluation of additional development options for the field.  These included the consideration of the acquisition of an existing gathering and processing complex.
